Sharing the same great passion for the Sturm und Drang movement, Ensemble Sanguineus decided to set up a new group concentrated on this vivid and polarizing period that pushed the boundaries in the history of music, art and literature. The musicians cross the repertoire limits, being able to perform with a wide array of instruments (harpsichord, pianoforte, violin, viola, violoncello, historical recorders and flutes).
The name of the ensemble comes from the C.P.E. Bach’s Sonata “Sanguineus und Melancholicus”, describing the opposite types of human characters. 'Sanguineus' was described in The 'Heidelberg Book of Fate' (Regensburg, after 1491) as ‘passional type, predominant humour blood, predominant temperament hot-wet, element air’.
Finalists of the Rheinsberg Hofkapelle Competition (Germany, 2023). Ensemble Sanguineus joined the prestigious EEEmerging+ program for early music ensembles in 2024. The ensemble performed in Poland, Germany, Spain, France, Croatia and Italy.
